Sports Desk: South African batsman Zubair Hamza has been temporarily banned after being caught in the International Cricket Council's (ICC) anti-doping code. The 26-year-old batsman will not be able to play any form of cricket until a full verdict is reached.
The ICC said in a statement on Friday that Zubair Hamza had been sampled for doping tests on January 17 this year. The presence of furosemide was found there.
Which is one of the prohibited items under Section S5 of the ICC Anti-Doping Code. For this reason, Zubair will have to face severe punishment.
Zubair, 26, made his international cricket debut against Pakistan in early 2019. He was the 100th Test cricketer in South Africa to return to cricket.
He played his only ODI against the Netherlands last year. All in all, his international career was limited to 8 Tests and only one ODI.
Zubair Hamza removed his name from the current series against Bangladesh citing personal reasons.
