Sports Desk: The calculation of numbers is quite confusing. Despite being at the top of the points table, almost all of the remaining 12 teams have a chance to overtake Bangladesh. However, considering the current situation in the points table, the strength of the teams and the opponents, it can be said that the direct World Cup game of Bangladesh is almost certain.
After winning the historic series 2-1 against South Africa by getting 20 points, Bangladesh has a chance to be in the top four of the points table. The Tigers are at the top of the points table in the Super League with 120 points.

The Super League started on May 1, 2020. Initially, the cut-off time was March 31, 2022, but due to the Corona epidemic, now all the matches of the Super League have to be completed by May 2023. Each team will play a total of eight series (24 matches) in the Super League.
Bangladesh has played six series (18 matches). There are only two series left. There has been some uncertainty about the away series against Ireland though. Although scheduled for May, the Irish board postponed it until next year. Besides, Bangladesh will host England in another series next year. Despite losing all the six matches in the two series, it seems that playing a direct World Cup in Bangladesh will not be a problem.
10 teams will take part in the 2023 ODI World Cup to be held in India. India will play directly as the host country. And seven teams will be selected from the Super League. The top seven teams in the Super League points table will play directly in the World Cup. If India is among the seven teams, the number eight team will get a ticket to the World Cup. For the remaining two places, the teams at the bottom of the Super League points table will play in the qualifiers against the ICC's allies.
Like Bangladesh, Ireland and Sri Lanka have played 18 matches in the 13-team Super League. The Irish are fifth with 6 points and the Lankans are sixth with 62 points. West Indies are eighth with 50 points from 15 matches. South Africa are ninth with 49 points from 13 matches, Zimbabwe are 11th with 35 points from 12 matches and the Netherlands are last with 25 points from 6 matches.
Collected points, considering the opponents and strength of the upcoming matches, it is almost impossible for these six teams to overtake Bangladesh. So even though no official announcement has been made, it can be said that Bangladesh is almost certain to be in the top seven out of 13 teams. However, Bangladesh's goal is not just to play a direct World Cup. Despite winning the series against the Afghans in February, Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal said in frustration after losing the last match that his goal was to stay in the top four. So he doesn’t want to miss points. The Tigers' chances of a top four win in the series against South Africa are now strong again.
